Scouts came to Tasburgh in 1980 when Bernard Minns, an assistant leader at Long Stratton, moved into the village. He was joined by Lindon Bringloe and Tim Braddock, and because both Berni and Tim had been sea scouts in their youth, decided the troop should follow suit, in fact it is only one of two such troops in South Norfolk District.
In 1984, Both Bernard and Lindon left the area and Calvin Goreham helped Tim who had become Scout leader. Tim became Group Scout leader in 1992 when Alan Rush replaced him, followed in 1998 by Don Proudfoot and in 2001 by Janna Norfolk. The cub pack was started in 1984 but closed 12 months later when the leader moved, but was restarted in 1986 by Kate Ferris, followed by Alan Rush who moved to Tasburgh in 1990, Gordon Hazell in 1994, Don Proudfoot in 1996, and Tracey Windscheffel in 2001.
The beavers were formed in 1991 by Richard Cousens and Jo Thirkettle, but had to close in 1995 before restarting With Paul Land in 1997.The sections meet at the hall and take part in the various District activities, camping, canoeing, parades etc. In 1997, the St George's Day parade was hosted by Tasburgh on 27th April.
The "Cathedral" was built from 3 marquees on the hall fields and over 300 members, leaders and parents attended, With the service given by Rev lan Bishop. The support from the Executive Committee has always been strong and one decision, after much debate, was to accept females, the first attending in 1997. In June 2002 Tim is stepping down as Group Leader after 22 years and will be followed by Don Proudfoot who will bring a wealth of experience to the position.
Scouting brings a controlled and adventurous programme to village children.
Please keep supporting and helping the group.
